On this 12th day of Christmas, my gift to you are an assortment of resources, videos, blog posts, podcasts, and social media community links from the Say Yes to Holiness ministry. My hope is that they can help us be mindful of, and be entry points to dive deeper into understanding the twelve points of belief in the Apostles Creed–which the 12 drummers drumming represent in the Twelve Days of Christmas song.
Those twelve points of belief in the Apostle’s Creed are:
- I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth.
- And in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord
- Who was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary
- He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried
- He descended into hell. And on the third day He rose again from the dead
- He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty
- He will come again to judge the living and the dead
- I believe in the Holy Spirit
- the holy catholic Church, the Communion of Saints
- the forgiveness of sins
- the resurrection of the body
- And in life everlasting.
Personally, I have always thought that the idea of 12 drummers drumming is such a great one for highlighting the points of belief.
Why you may ask?
Two reasons.
First the drumming is for our own benefit. We need to drum these points home in our minds, hearts and souls! We NEED to know without a doubt what it is that we profess.
The second is for the benefit of others. When the time come to profess what we believe, we need to not hesitate to share these beliefs with others.
Why again?
BECAUSE IT IS THE GOOD NEWS!
Seriously, what could be better news in this depressing and discouraging world then the reality that God created us, and out of LOVE, sent His Son to BE with us by becoming one of us? And then out of that love, He willingly suffered, died, ROSE FROM THE DEAD, and ascended into Heaven where He is seated at the right hand of our Father to judge the living and the dead? But even better is the fact that there is FORGIVENESS of sins, RESURRECTION of the body, and LIFE EVERLASTING.
This is why we need drums! We need to draw attention as we LOUDLY proclaim these GOOD, BEAUTIFUL, and WONDROUS TRUTHS like never before so we can help EVERYONE experience hope, peace, joy and love each and every day of their lives here on earth and all the way unto eternity.
These are the REAL gifts of Christmas.
