Today, I received an ENORMOUS gift from God. What was it? He clarified my vision.
What do I mean by that? Well, throughout my day, God continued to send me signs that made it clear that I was on the path that He was desiring for me to walk in my life right now.
I know that can seem a bit crazy for someone who is not a person of faith, but it’s actually not. It’s really as simple as having the proper eyeglass prescription.
For anyone who has had an eye exam, you know what I mean. Part of the process of a vision exam is to go through a series of lenses on the phoropter (the machine you look through as the eye doctor conducts the exam), so as to ascertain the exact prescription necessary so we can have 20/20 vision– and see the world clearly. As the lenses go from blurry to clear, or from clear to even clearer, the experience is truly amazing, because even if you are in no need of correction, you still realize what the world could look like if you didn’t have clear vision.
Now take this analogy and apply it to how we go through our lives. Most of the time, I think we perceive things as a bit “blurry”, since we tend to fumble and stumble a bit making decisions that aren’t so perfect. (There’s a reason hindsight is 20/20! LOL)
Yet, I am sure that most of us have had a time (or two) in our lives when we knew without a doubt, exactly what we should be doing and where we should be going. And not only that, we also made all the proper decisions so that we could do exactly what we should be doing, in the place we were supposed to do it. These times may last for years, or months, or days, or maybe even moments. But if your experience is anything like mine, it’s those times when we have crystal clear vision that are what keep us moving forward the rest of the time when our vision is a bit blurry.
I firmly believe that regardless of the length of times we have crystal clear vision, those times make all the difference in the world. Why? Because it it those times that encourage and console you; or give you the courage to step outside your comfort zone to do something you have never done before; or to strengthen your resolve to do or say what is difficult in the midst of challenges; or to simply persevere in the face of life’s crosses.
Times of clear vision are what give you direction to live a life that is full of purpose and meaning.
So how can we strive to have vision that is as clear as possible? Stay as close to our Lord as possible. Speak with Him often. Let Him share with you what is possible–if you let Him point the way.
And that is what happened for me today. I worked to make sure He was close by, and I was able to see things as He does, and able to hear as He hears, and in those minutes and moments, He clarified my vision and encouraged me to keep walking on the path before me. Magnificent grace indeed.
So how clear is your vision?
If it’s a bit blurry right now, if you aren’t sure exactly where you’re going, or what you should be doing, I encourage you to Stop. Look. Listen.
God is always whispering.
Know of my prayers that you may have ears to hear, and be given clear vision to see all the great things He has in store for you.
